Nelson College for Girls rowing runs in partnership with Nelson Rowing Club, which the school has named as its rowing partner for well over a decade. Crews train from the club's base at the Port Nelson marina and row on the Haven, a stretch of water inside the Boulder Bank.
The school lists rowing among its most popular sports and caters for beginners through to experienced rowers. The season builds to the South Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships in February and the Maadi Cup in late March, and Nelson crews travel to Blenheim, Twizel and Cambridge to race.
In 2025 the NCG rowing squad sent eight students to the Maadi Regatta at Lake Karapiro in Cambridge. The school has had national title winners in rowing and a New Zealand representative at the 2019 World Youth Championships.
