Exeter Rowing Club is based at the Exeter Ship Canal basin beside the city's historic quayside. From 62 Haven Road it can reach both the River Exe and Exeter Ship Canal, and shares classroom, changing, clubroom and bar facilities with Exeter Water Sports Association.

Rowing in Exeter is documented from the early 1800s, and the present club was formally established in 1864. Exeter Amateur, St Thomas Amateur and Port Royal Amateur rowing clubs all contributed to the city's rowing history; the club also survived the two World Wars and twice lost both its boat shed and headquarters.

More than 140 members range from teenagers to veterans and from recreational rowers to international-standard competitors. Current groups include performance, club, masters and junior squads, while a recreational squad rows year-round and uses the river in summer and the canal in winter.

Adult Learn to Row courses run over two weekends, and junior courses serve ages 12 to 16 through after-school and Sunday sessions. Exeter also trains new coxes and provides progression from beginner courses into recreational or racing squads.

Club athletes compete at local, national and international level. In 2025 an Exeter women's masters coxed four won at the British Rowing Masters Championships, and the club recorded six wins at the opening West of England Amateur Rowing Association regatta, across junior, novice and senior events.

Exeter organises the Pathfinder Exeter Regatta under West of England Amateur Rowing Association rules and also runs social events including quiz nights and skittles. Former junior Phoebe Campbell won under-23 world silver for Great Britain in the coxless four in 2022.
