About this club

Torridge Pilot Gig Club is based on the Quay at Appledore and rows on the Torridge estuary. It was founded in March 2006 and operates as a community club for recreational and competitive pilot-gig rowing.

The club began with a borrowed glass-reinforced plastic gig. Its history records the arrival of Will-to-Win in 2007, Kerens in 2009 and Endurance later, alongside training boats Revenge and Oarsum.

Members race at regattas around the South West and at the World Pilot Gig Championships. The club is affiliated to the Cornish Pilot Gig Association, placing its crews within the recognised pilot-gig racing circuit.

The weekly programme includes open rows and recreational sessions as well as training for racing crews. It also publishes TGIF rows, monthly Barbarian rows and indoor rowing sessions, giving members several forms of participation.

Torridge is a registered charity. Its Charity Commission entry says its purpose is to provide facilities and equipment for pilot-gig rowing for the benefit of people in Torridge and the surrounding area.

The club keeps its gigs on Appledore Quay, next to the businesses identified in its directions. It does not publish a formal numbered postal address for that quay base, so the profile retains only The Quay, Appledore.
