About this club

The Grange School Rowing Club rows from the school's boathouse on Willow Green Lane, Northwich, beside the River Weaver near Acton Bridge. The school identifies a five-kilometre stretch of the river at this location as the club's home water.

Rowing began at The Grange in 1985 with a handful of pupils and two boats. The school now describes a club of more than 150 pupils, supported by 14 coaches and a fleet of 70 boats. Rowing is integrated into the school calendar and provides competition at local, national and international level.

Pupils are introduced to rowing machines in Year 6 and first go on the water at the end of Year 8, with more river training as they progress. The Senior School Sports Centre has 23 rowing machines and a refurbished strength and conditioning suite for the rowing programme.

The governors' 2022-23 report recorded 285 medals at regattas including Warrington, Runcorn, Agecroft, Ironbridge, Chester, Northwich, Shrewsbury, the Sculling Head and National Schools. It also recorded the Junior Victor Ludorum at Chester Head, a J16 gold at the British Rowing Junior Championships and Abdelrahman Farag's selection for the GB under-16 team.

In 2026 the club won four events at Junior Head North, including the open and women's J14 octuples and the women's J18 quadruple sculls. The school's own reporting also records representation at Henley Royal Regatta and the British Indoor Rowing Championships.
