The club dates the start of its modern River Mersey era to autumn 1985, when Andy Greenwell tested the water in a single scull. A Rotary Club event followed, and a first boathouse was established at Old Quay before the club moved into another boathouse in 1989.

Current membership categories include senior and masters, development and junior squads. Active membership includes equipment hire and gym access, and the senior and masters category covers water, gym and racing sessions.

The adult learn-to-row course runs throughout the year in six weeks of two-hour sessions. Beginners start on rowing machines, then learn sculling in stable Explore Rowing boats before progressing towards regular club rowing.

The history records a women's squad racing at Henley Women's Regatta after new coxed fours arrived in 1990. Helen Brown later won national sculling titles and represented Great Britain at junior and under-23 level.

The club's junior programme developed through links with Lymm High School. Its account names Olivia Oakes as another national-title winner and junior and under-23 Great Britain representative, and says the junior section became a major part of club activity.

Warrington runs its annual regatta as a 500-metre side-by-side sprint in July. Club fundraising guidance also identifies Learn to Row, the Head and the Regatta as recurring Warrington activities.
