The King's School Rowing Club has trained pupils in Chester since 1883. It rows from a boathouse at The Groves in the centre of Chester on the River Dee and is affiliated to British Rowing under boat code KCH.

Rowing enters the school's sports curriculum in the third year and remains available thereafter to pupils who choose it. The school says about 160 pupils are actively involved, supported by experienced professional coaching and facilities at the riverside boathouse.

The programme serves regional and international-standard competitors while expecting the same academic and communication standards from each pupil. A 2024 recruitment brief described coaching across all three terms, summer rowing camps and a goal of fielding competitive crews in every age category at the National Schools' Regatta.

King's won the Visitors' Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta in 1993 and has produced multiple British champions. Its first eight reached the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup final in 2006, the semi-final in 1992 and quarter-finals in six years between 1993 and 2022.

The school reports many former Boat Race crew members among its Old King's Scholars, together with National and Olympic squad members. It also records a continuing path from King's rowing into the Oxford and Cambridge programmes.

In March 2024, club crews followed success at the North of England Head by racing the Schools' Head of the River on the Thames. They then prepared at an Easter camp on Llangdegfedd Reservoir for the National Schools' Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
