Molesey Boat Club

Molesey Boat Club rows on a four-kilometre stretch of the River Thames from Barge Walk, off Graburn Way, East Molesey. A public meeting on 26 April 1866 formally created the club.

The boathouse on the present site was built in 1901, and the club bought its freehold in 1953. An extension followed in 2003, and a rowing centre with a gym and indoor tank opened behind the boathouse in 2016.

Molesey accommodates members from their teens into their nineties. Its programme covers junior learn-to-row, adult courses, full-time high-performance athletes, student rowers, masters, recreational Explore rowing and Go Row indoor classes.

The club's first Henley Royal Regatta win came in the Thames Challenge Cup in 1891, followed by Wyfold Challenge Cup victories in 1892 and 1893. It later won the Grand Challenge Cup in 1960.

Jonnie and Greg Searle, with cox Gary Herbert, won Olympic gold in the coxed pair in 1992. Andy Triggs Hodge won Olympic golds in 2008, 2012 and 2016, while Tom James, George Nash, James Foad and Mohammed Sbihi added further Olympic medals as Molesey members.

The club says it has produced an under-19 world champion, an under-23 world champion, an Olympic champion, a Paralympic champion and a Henley Royal Regatta champion in the same year. Its history also records Ollie Stanhope's Tokyo Paralympic gold in the PR3 mixed coxed four.

Molesey has supported or organised Molesey Regatta since the event began in 1867. The local race programme also includes the Molesey Junior Head and Molesey Veterans Head.
