Barwon Rowing Club was established in Geelong in 1870 and rows from 2 Barwon Terrace on the Barwon River. Its own site describes it as Geelong's largest rowing club.
The club runs programmes for beginners through to sub-elite and elite rowers. Its offer covers school-age, social, senior and masters rowing.
A new shed opened in 2012 with a rowers' gym, social and function facilities and an extensive fleet. The fleet includes training and racing boats from single sculls to eights.
The founding call appeared in the Geelong Advertiser on 22 June 1870, inviting people interested in forming a club on the Barwon River to meet at Mack's Hotel. The club has since documented every season from 1870 to 2020.
At its October 1970 centenary, Barwon celebrated the lightweight and country premierships and 32 wins. Bob Fitch also won the Victorian Senior Scull Championship in that period.
The club continues to compete in local, state and masters rowing. Its own updates record medals at the Australian Masters Championships and racing in the Geelong Winter Sculling series.
