Bendigo Rowing Club is based at Lake Weeroona and is run entirely by volunteers. It welcomes beginners, elite athletes, social rowers and competitors across a wide range of ages and fitness levels.
The club traces its origins to 1872, when mining surveyor and rower John Godfrey moved from Tasmania to Sandhurst and helped prompt the formation of Sandhurst Rowing Club. A separate Bendigo Rowing Club was formed soon afterwards at Grassy Flat Reservoir.
Godfrey left his boats to the club when he died in 1927. His restored single scull is displayed in the club gym. In 1928 the Sandhurst and Bendigo clubs merged as Bendigo Rowing Club.
Regular Learn to Row programmes serve junior rowers, normally from age 12, and adults with no previous experience. The club runs training sessions during the week and offers both social and competitive rowing.
Junior and adult members race at Victorian regattas, state championships and national competition. Masters members also attend national and international masters events.
Bendigo hosts the annual Bendigo Sprint Regatta at Lake Weeroona. Rowing Victoria's 2025 entry identifies Bendigo Rowing Club as the regatta host.
