City of Warrnambool Rowing Club rows from Simpson Street beside the Proudfoots complex on the Hopkins River. A current community listing describes about 50 members of varied ages, experience and backgrounds, rowing for recreation or competition.
The club was formed in 1873. In 1885 Fanny Nelson built a boathouse on the Hopkins River bank and leased it to the club, and a two-storey club building opened in 1889.
The club now operates from Proudfoot's Boathouse near the river mouth. Its own site invites new members and promotes Learn to Row.
A published club history records that Emmanuel College, Brauer College and Warrnambool College crews rowed from the shed in the late 1990s. It also records the club's annual regatta in December.
David McDougall won the men's masters single scull at the 1997 FISA World Masters Regatta in Adelaide. The following year the club marked its 125th anniversary with a dinner at Proudfoot's on 24 October 1998.
The club remains affiliated with Rowing Victoria and maintains a current public club page for membership enquiries and rowing activity.
