Melbourne Argonauts Queer Rowing Club is based at Albert Park Lake and describes itself as Australia's first LGBTQIA+ rowing club. It provides social and competitive rowing in a setting intended to be safe, healthy and welcoming for queer people.
Meredith Williams, Annie South and Sandy Mitchell formed the club in 2001. Its first annual general meeting took place on a train from Melbourne to Geelong, where passengers voted on the name Melbourne Argonauts.
The club has competed at the 2006 Montreal and 2009 Copenhagen World Outgames and at the 2006 Chicago and 2018 Paris Gay Games. Its history says the Argonauts won the most gold medals and the most medals overall at the Paris rowing regatta.
Programs include a four-week Learn to Row course, Return to Row, social and fitness rowing, and competitive pathways through to senior competition. The club uses volunteer Level 1 and Level 2 coaches alongside an employed Level 3 coaching consultant.
Membership routes include rower, coxswain and supporter options, with rowing pathways matched to experience and goals. The volunteer-run club also takes part in regattas and camps, raises funds through its beginner programs and social events, and maintains a public address at 34 Lakeside Drive, Albert Park.
