Melbourne University Boat Club

Melbourne University Boat Club rows from 1 Boathouse Drive on the Yarra in Melbourne. The University of Melbourne describes it as a premier club whose boathouse operates throughout the year for university, elite and masters rowing.

Professor Martin Irving founded the club in 1859. Australian Rowing History identifies it as Australia's oldest rowing club and records that it staged the country's first amateur boat race on the Yarra in 1860.

The university rowing program is open to students and includes two water sessions each week, access to gym, ergometer and Wattbike training, and use of the club boat-booking system. University crews race intervarsity events and the Head of the Yarra, with progression available into youth, club and high-performance squads.

The club's own site presents separate men's and women's youth development and high-performance programs. Melbourne University Sport also lists opportunities for elite and masters athletes alongside intervarsity participation.

Competitive results include the senior premiership at the 2025 Rowing Victoria Awards, where MUBC finished first on 292 points. The club has also recorded national and international representatives across its long history.
