Nagambie Rowing Club was established in 1891 after construction of the Goulburn Weir created Lake Nagambie. The club held its first regatta in 1893 under president John Gordon MLA.

Early competitive milestones include Wally Heath's place in a winning Australian champion eight in 1905 and the club's senior eight, four and pair victories at Henley in 1908. In 1909 a Nagambie four rowed three miles in 13 minutes 2.4 seconds, which the club records as a world record. The club also won Victorian elite premierships in 1919, 1934 and 1935.

In 1964 Neil Lodding, Bruce Richardson and cox Wayne Gammon were selected as Australia's Olympic coxed pair. The history also records Alf Lodding as a Victorian representative rower and Olympic coach.

The original Buckley Park boathouse was flooded in 1916. G. Buckley donated 4.75 acres for rowing and swimming in 1930, and a rebuilt boathouse with upstairs clubrooms opened through volunteer work in 1978. The club moved its commercial operations after purchasing the Valley Hotel in 1995.

Today's rowing section includes junior and masters rowers and says members range from 12 to 90. Social and competitive crews race at Nagambie and metropolitan regattas, supported by volunteer coaches including three former Olympians.
