Melburnia Club (Old Melburnians)
Melbourne, Victoria
About this club
Melbourne Grammar School's published material identifies Melburnia Club as the school's rowing club for Old Melburnians. A school rowing role description lists the Melburnia Club, with 'Old Melburnians' in parentheses, among the organisations connected to the school program.
The club provides a route for Melbourne Grammar alumni to continue rowing. In 2017 it assembled four alumni crews for a regatta marking the 150th anniversary of the APS Head of the River.
The school's report says the open alumni crew won its event. It also records participants from several rowing generations, including Olympic gold medallist David Crawshay, under-23 representatives and Kings Cup rowers.
Tony Smith is credited in the same report with initiating Melburnia Club. The 2017 report names him as an organiser and participant in the alumni crews.
Rowing Victoria annual reports have also listed an Old Melburnians Rowing Club among Victorian rowing organisations.
