About this club

Swan River Rowing Club is based at 2 The Esplanade, Mount Pleasant, and rows on the Canning River near its meeting with the Swan. The club reports more than 200 active and social members, from juniors to masters in their eighties.

The club was founded in 1885 by working men meeting at the United Service Hotel. It launched a boat named The Swan in 1887 and defeated West Australian Rowing Club in its first major race.

Swan River's history records a clean sweep of every open championship in Western Australia in 1984. It also says about 20 members and a coach have represented Australia at the Olympic Games. The centenary year in 1985 included club participation at the FISA Masters in Toronto.

Current programs include juniors, senior competition, masters, social rowing and high performance, with a pathway into the Western Australian Institute of Sport. The club describes coached training and both state and national racing.

Rowing Australia named Swan River its Club of the Year in 2024. The club says it was the leading Western Australian club at the 2025 Australian Rowing Championships and received Rowing Australia's 2025 Program of the Year award for its corporate program.
