About this club
Castletownbere Rowing Club is a mixed coastal club based at The Boathouse on Dinish Island, Castletownbere, County Cork. Rowing Ireland lists both coastal scull and coastal sweep among its disciplines.
The club provides routes into the sport as well as racing. In 2021 it hosted a sold-out Women on the Water programme for adult beginners, covering rowing-machine work, stroke drills and progression onto the water.
Castletownbere has a strong junior section. At the club's 2022 offshore regatta, its crews won both under-14 coxed-quad races, the women's junior 16 and junior 18 quads, and the women's open single.
The club hosted the 2024 Irish Junior Coastal Championships at Dinish Island. Its women's junior 18 double won the national title and the women's junior 14 quad placed third, during a weekend that also included senior and masters racing.
Miriam Sheehan began rowing with Castletownbere at 21 and progressed to Irish international coastal competition. Her results include eighth in the women's solo at the 2021 World Coastal Championships and second at the 2023 Home International Beach Sprints.
The club also runs its own endurance or offshore regatta. Rowing Ireland's 2026 calendar again lists a Castletownbere coastal sculling regatta, continuing the programme of junior, senior, open and masters events staged from the town.
