About this club
Portmagee Rowing Club is based in Portmagee, County Kerry. Rowing Ireland lists it for river rowing, coastal sculling and coastal sweep rowing, with dark navy and white club colours.
The club races across junior, senior and masters categories. Its 2021 offshore programme included quads, doubles and singles for men and women, mixed crews, and junior quads at under-14 and under-16 level.
Portmagee hosted the fourth Irish Offshore Rowing Championships in the village at short notice in 2020. Rowing Ireland described it as the only championship regatta held that year and the second regatta the club had run within three years.
In 2021 the club hosted a combined offshore and beach-sprint regatta at Ballinskelligs Beach. A local report identified it as Ireland's first offshore beach-sprint regatta; Portmagee's under-12 crew won gold.
Portmagee, also named Portmagee El Nino in championship documents, hosted the 2021 Irish Coastal Rowing Championships. At the 2022 championships its crews won the traditional under-14 and under-18 women's races and the traditional under-16 women's race.
The club continues to compete in coastal masters events. At the 2025 Irish Masters Coastal Championships, Portmagee athletes placed in men's singles and composites in men's and mixed quads.
