About this club

Aramoho Whanganui Rowing Club rows on the Whanganui River from its boatshed on Somme Parade in Aramoho, Whanganui. The club was formed in the mid-1980s when the Aramoho Boating Club, whose history at the site dates back to 1898, merged with the Whanganui Rowing Club.

It runs learn-to-row programmes for adults and for students throughout the year. School rowers come from Whanganui High School and the Rangitikei district, with novice intakes in February and September. Club rowers who have left school race in five ability classes from novice upwards, and masters rowers aged 27 and over compete at national and international level.

Work on the clubhouse and boat storage began with voluntary labour in 1954 and was completed in 1959, and a lounge and motorboat storage were added in 1972. The club has a full-time Director of Rowing, and membership includes use of the club gym.

In 2024 Rowing New Zealand named Aramoho Whanganui its Rowing Club of the Year, the first time the club had received the award.
