About this club

Samuel Marsden Rowing is the rowing programme of Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in Wellington, with crews training on Wellington Harbour from the city or Petone and making several trips through the season to a base at Foxton and Moutoa.

Rowing is open to girls from Year 9 upward. A short Learn to Row programme teaches Year 9 students the basics of the rowing stroke, and the competitive season runs from September to March. Novices usually train four to five times a week, on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings, while returning rowers train five to six days a week.

In the first half of the season the girls race club events for Wellington Rowing Club on Wellington Harbour and the Whanganui River. The second half brings three major regattas at Lake Karapiro before the Maadi Regatta, and training builds towards the Junior Regatta, the North Island Secondary Schools Championships and, for selected girls, the Maadi Regatta.
