Tawa College
Porirua, Wellington
Rows from Porirua Rowing Club at Titahi Bay, with Tawa College students training in a combined school squad.
About this club
Tawa College students row with Porirua Rowing Club, which is based at Onepoto at the entrance to Titahi Bay, at the northern end of Porirua Harbour. The club runs a combined secondary school programme that trains Tawa College rowers alongside students from other schools, including Kapiti College, Paraparaumu College and Aotea College.
The club's school-aged Learn to Row programme runs in Term 3. Club racing usually runs from September to February, after which secondary school rowers race for their own schools at secondary school regattas, ending with the Maadi Regatta in March.
Age groups run from under 15 to under 18, set by a rower's age on 1 January. Crews at school regattas away from the local area must come from a single school, coxswain included.
