Victoria University Rowing Club rows on Wellington Harbour from the Wellington waterfront, just down from Civic Square. It shares its boat shed and training facilities with Wellington Rowing Club, in the heritage building by the Frank Kitts Lagoon on Taranaki Street Wharf.
The club offers training, racing and coaching for university students. Facilities include an erg room, changing sheds, a full range of boat sizes and a second boat shed in Wellington's north end, where the water is often calmer.
The main event of the season is the University Rowing National Championships, held at a different venue each year. Its most prestigious race is for the Hebberly Shield, a tradition that dates back to 1928. The club also competes at the New Zealand university games and the world university games.
The club was established in 1927. It marked its 90th anniversary in September 2017 with a regatta on Wellington Harbour and an alumni reunion, when it had about 50 members ranging from novices to championship rowers. Rowers from Victoria include the Olympians John Gibbons and Dick Joyce.
