Waitaki Boys' High School

Oamaru, Otago

Rows on Oamaru Harbour and the Waihao Box with Oamaru Rowing Club, for Waitaki Boys' students in Years 9 to 13.

About this club

Waitaki Boys' High School rowers train and race with Oamaru Rowing Club, which has its boatshed and fitness centre on the Oamaru harbour waterfront and a second shed beside Lake Ruataniwha near Twizel. The club provides training, coaching and supervision for rowers from Waitaki Boys', Waitaki Girls' High School and St Kevin's College.

The club's school programme is for students in Years 9 to 13 and runs from early September to early April, with an 8 week Learn to Row block for newcomers. Weekday sessions run from 4pm to 6pm, Monday to Thursday, in the club gym or on the harbour, and many weekends are spent on the water at the Waihao Box. Later in the season rowers split into school crews for the South Island Secondary Schools Championships and the Maadi Cup.

Waitaki Boys' High School entered crews in the 2026 Maadi Regatta on Lake Ruataniwha. At the club's 2023-24 prizegiving, Waitaki Boys' rowers were recognised for top ten placings at that season's Maadi Cup.
