Waitaki Girls' High School

Oamaru, Otago

Trains with Oamaru Rowing Club on Oamaru Harbour, for Waitaki Girls' students in Years 9 to 13.

About this club

Waitaki Girls' High School rowers train with Oamaru Rowing Club, the only rowing club between Dunedin and Timaru, from its boatshed and fitness centre on the Oamaru harbour waterfront. The club provides training, coaching and supervision for Waitaki Girls' rowers at local and national regattas, alongside rowers from Waitaki Boys' High School and St Kevin's College.

Students in Years 9 to 13 can join the club's school programme, which runs from early September to early April and starts with an 8 week Learn to Row block. Rowers train up to four nights a week, with weekend water sessions on the Waihao Box or at the club's shed beside Lake Ruataniwha near Twizel.

Later in the season the squad splits into school crews for the South Island Secondary Schools Championships and the Maadi Cup, and Waitaki Girls' High School entered crews in the 2026 Maadi Regatta on Lake Ruataniwha. Parents of Waitaki Girls' and Waitaki Boys' rowers donated an international grade single, double and quad to the club.
