Wellington College Rowing Club runs rowing at Wellington College, training on Lambton Harbour from Star Boating Club on the Wellington waterfront. Rowing has been offered at the college since 1888, and every rower is also a member of Star, which provides some boats, boat storage, coaching boats and training equipment shared with other schools.
A Learn to Row programme in Term 3 is open to boys from every year group, and a novice squad is chosen at the end of it. The season for returning rowers runs from September to the North Island Secondary Schools Championships in March, with a spring camp in Whanganui, a summer camp, regattas in Whanganui and at Lake Karapiro, and the McLachlan Shield in Wellington. After the North Island championships, a smaller representative squad may be chosen to race at the Maadi Cup.
Only about a quarter of training is on the water, with weights, ergs and running making up the rest. Crews regularly make A finals and win medals at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships and the Maadi Cup, and Wellington College entered crews in the 2026 Maadi Regatta.
