About this club

Wellington East Girls' College rowing is based at Star Boating Club on Wellington Harbour, where daily training takes place. Coaching is provided by the club, and the school runs a Learn to Row programme with Star, a five to six week taster that girls complete before they can be considered for the school squad.

The summer season runs from the start of Term 4 until the end of Term 1 the following year. Training usually means four to five two-hour sessions a week on the harbour or in the boat club, from 6am to 8am or 4pm to 6pm, worked around the school day. Senior rowers generally train five to six days a week, and a one week training camp is held every summer holiday.

In the first half of the season the girls race for Star Boating Club at inter-club regattas, generally held on Wellington Harbour, Lake Horowhenua, the Manawatu River, the Whanganui River or Lake Karapiro. Later they represent the school at inter-school regattas, building towards the NZ Secondary Schools championships (Maadi Cup).
