Cambridge University Boat Club - Cambridge

Cambridge University Boat Club is the University of Cambridge's rowing club. Its Cambridge base is Goldie Boathouse on Kimberley Road, while water training takes place mainly from the club's Ely Boathouse on the River Great Ouse.

The inaugural CUBC meeting was held at Gonville and Caius College on 9 December 1828. Cambridge challenged Oxford after that meeting, and the first Boat Race was held at Henley in June 1829. Goldie Boathouse was built on the Cam in 1873 and is named after J. H. D. Goldie, who won three of his four Boat Races between 1869 and 1872.

The first Women's Boat Race was held in 1927. Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club was founded in 1974 for the first men's Lightweight Boat Race in 1975, and the first lightweight women's race followed in 1984. The women's race moved to the Championship Course in 2015.

On 1 August 2020, the openweight men's, lightweight men's and women's university clubs combined as one Cambridge University Boat Club. The club now operates four student squads, with elected student presidents, professional coaches and a mission centred on the openweight and lightweight Boat Races against Oxford.

Goldie contains the club's ergo, weights and tank training areas, physiotherapy centre and offices. The Ely Boathouse opened in December 2016 so all men and women could boat from one base, and provides four boat bays, a wet dock and rooms used between sessions.

Cambridge's current openweight record leads Oxford in both the men's and women's Boat Race series. Published honours include British championship crews from 1972 through 2024 and Henley Royal Regatta wins beginning with the Grand Challenge Cup in 1845.
