About this club

BTC (Southampton) Rowing Club is based at Crosshouse Road in Southampton and promotes amateur rowing on the River Itchen. Its registered charity provides premises and equipment, free trial sessions, and coaching for people who take up the sport.

The club was formed in 1927 for members of the Southern Railways and Southampton Docks Board Sports and Social Club. It began as Docks & Marine Rowing Club, became British Transport Commission Rowing Club in the mid-1950s, and moved from the Eastern Docks to its present Crosshouse Road site in 1987.

Coastal competition is part of the club's history, with crews racing along the south coast. The history page also records the development of women's crews from the early 1960s and the later creation of a junior section.
