Stourport Boat Club rows on the River Severn from The Boathouse, Riverside, Dunley Road, Stourport-on-Severn. The club describes about six kilometres of rowing water between Blackstone and Lincomb Weir.
Founded in 1876, it retained the name Boat Club because boating was its principal activity at formation. The first Town Regatta was held in the same year after its organisers raised an £80 fund and invited clubs from across England.
That inaugural regatta comprised the Ladies Plate for single sculls and the Town Plate for fours. West London Rowing Club won both events.
Regular learn-to-row courses use stable boats before participants can progress into junior, senior or masters squads. The club says its fleet supports both rowing and sculling.
The boathouse has boat storage on the ground floor, with a function room, bar, meeting room, kitchen and gym above. Stourport is affiliated to British Rowing and managed under a written constitution.
The club records a world champion masters sculler, two Commonwealth Games medallists, junior and senior national champions, and crews at Henley Royal Regatta. It encourages members to support its racing events as competitors or volunteers.
The two-day Town Regatta continues each August. The club reports more than 600 crews and provision for 3,000 visitors over the weekend.
