The club's homepage connects its rowing tradition to 1875 and reproduces an account of a Brisbane Rowing Club opening on 24 July that year. Its detailed history traces the present amalgamation through Breakfast Creek Rowing Club, established in 1885, and GPS Old Boys Rowing Club, founded in 1925; the two merged in 1947.

Current programmes cover adult Learn to Row, junior girls up to 19, masters training and competition, recreational rowing and a women's high-performance pathway. New members are invited to email the club or visit the boatshed on a Saturday morning.

The structured Learn to Row programme has four Saturday lessons progressing from basic to advanced skills. Graduates can take two further months in a coached Transition Squad before moving into the recreational programme and becoming eligible for full membership.

For the 2025/26 season, the high-performance programme comprises women's under-17 to under-19 squads. It targets the Queensland State Championships in January 2026 and the Australian Rowing Championships in March 2026.

The club also organises an annual masters regatta in March or April. Its 2025 event was held over 1,000 metres at Lake Wyaralong under Rowing Queensland registration arrangements.
