Abbotsford Rowing Club is based at Battersea Park in Abbotsford, on Hen and Chicken Bay beside the Parramatta River. The club adopted its current name in 2018 to reflect a membership that now includes both women and men.
The organisation began in 1910 when Alice Bentley and Mrs Chambers founded Western Suburbs Rowing Club at Abbotsford Point. It became Sydney Ladies Rowing Club in 1925 and Sydney Women's Rowing Club in 1953.
A new boatshed opened at Battersea Park in 1959. Methodist Ladies' College joined the club in 1997, creating Sydney Women's MLC Rowing Club, and men were admitted as members the following year.
The club's history records full club crews representing New South Wales at the Australian Championships, including a 1967 championship win. It also competed at the 1994 World Masters Games and later developed a strong masters and grade-regatta programme.
Abbotsford is now mainly, but not exclusively, a masters club. It also has competitive grade rowers, Sunday recreational rowing and an annual learn-to-row programme; 16 members travelled to the 2026 Taree Summer Regatta for three days of racing.
