Capital Lakes Rowing Club rows from Grevillea Park in Barton on Lake Burley Griffin. Membership is open to the community, with competitive and social rowing alongside junior, masters and para-rowing programmes.
The club says it was established in 1998 to open rowing to the wider community, particularly junior students whose schools did not have rowing programmes. Australian Rowing History records incorporation in March 1999 and an early home in the Kingston Nissen hut before the club developed its current base.
Its current pathway covers learn-to-row, novice, competitive, social and para rowing. The Go Rowing course uses six two-hour sessions, while junior rowers train under qualified coaches and compete at local ACT regattas.
Capital Lakes races in ACT summer regattas, the Winter Time Trial series, selected NSW regattas and the Australian National Championships. Social crews also take rowing trips, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Murray Rowathon is listed as a regular event on the club calendar.
The club's history records results at ACT, NSW and national level as well as Australian representation overseas. Para-rower Nikki Ayers, developed through Capital Lakes, won world championship gold with Jed Altschwager in 2023 and Paralympic gold at Paris 2024.
