Surfers Paradise Rowing Club is based at 159 Bundall Road beside the Chevron Island Bridge on the Nerang River. The current club welcomes beginners, social rowers, competitors and representative athletes, with published ages ranging from 12 to 85.

The club says Surfers Paradise Rowing Club was formed in 1989. Its lineage reaches back to Gold Coast Eagles rowers whose Isle of Capri shed was lost in the 1974 Boxing Day floods; the current Nerang River boathouse opened in 1996 and was dedicated as the John (Jock) Wright Boat Shed in February 1998.

Partnerships have included Griffith University and Trinity Lutheran College. The club says it has also supported rowing programs at The Southport School and St Hilda's; Griffith renewed its naming-rights partnership in 2020, supporting a pathway for school rowers and a learn-to-row program for university students.

Current offerings cover adult, school-age, high-performance, Masters and pathway rowing. The pathways program extends from junior development through university and under-23 rowing, while Masters sessions range from social river rows to structured regatta training; the club is also working to establish a dedicated para-rowing program.

Griffith reported that the club housed Australian representatives and had produced world and Olympic champions. At the 2014 Paradise Regatta its athletes won five gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals, including wins in the women's single and double sculls and men's double scull.

The Paradise Regatta was in its fifth year in 2011 and was credited to Griffith dentistry student David Houston. In 2013 the club's women's Masters eight won the Vern Reid Cup for a seventh successive year, and in 2016 its men's university eight defeated the University of Queensland at the regatta for the first time.
