Lake Macquarie Rowing Club is based at Edwards Park, 1B First Street, Booragul, on Lake Macquarie. The community club provides rowing facilities in the Newcastle region and welcomes athletes, coaches, coxswains, recreational rowers and social members.
The organisation began as Hunter Rowing Club in 1987 after gaining boat storage at Speers Point Sailing Club. It built its own boatshed on public land at Booragul in 1998 and changed its name to Lake Macquarie Rowing Club in 2011.
Beginners follow a three-stage Learn to Row programme on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Stage one has four lessons of about an hour, stages two and three each have eight lessons, and the final-stage payment can be credited towards annual membership.
The club fleet includes quads, fours, doubles, pairs and singles, with coxed and coxless boats where applicable. It separates boats into racing, racing-training and training categories; Learn to Row students can use the training fleet, while the other categories require experience or Club Captain approval.
Lake Macquarie continues to compete at club, state and national level. Its official news reports ninth place among 42 clubs on the medal table at the NSW Masters Championships and 24th among 97 clubs at the 2025 Australian Masters Championships.
The club also hosts a regatta, although rough-water cancellations led it to move the event from Lake Macquarie to Berry Park in 2015. The 2025 edition at Berry Park drew 248 entries, 505 seats and 201 athletes across 36 events.
