About this club
Leichhardt Rowing Club is at 62 Glover Street, Lilyfield, on Iron Cove in Sydney's inner west. The club has more than 200 members across school, junior, intermediate, senior and masters rowing.
A public meeting at Leichhardt Council Chambers formed the club on 29 May 1886. Its first clubhouse was formally opened by New South Wales Premier Sir Henry Parkes on 24 September 1887.
The current boathouse was created through a partnership with Pymble Ladies' College, signed in 2001 and formally opened in February 2002. The club and school share the facility, which supports both club members and Pymble's school rowing programme.
Leichhardt members represented the winning Australian Imperial Force crew at Henley in 1919, an event linked by the club to the establishment of the King's Cup trophy. The club also lists Olympic and world-championship representatives and NSW premiership victories in 1988, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014.
Beginners can progress from an Introduction to Rowing into an eight-session Learn to Row programme, while juniors have a separate development pathway. Leichhardt also runs a Corporate Challenge with an orientation, coached training and a regatta day.
