About this club
Murwillumbah Rowing Club is at 33 Tumbulgum Road, Murwillumbah, on the Tweed River in northern New South Wales. Rowing Australia's directory describes a marked 2,000-metre course suitable for regattas and a membership that is mainly Masters.
An earlier Tweed River Rowing Club was formed in Murwillumbah in October 1902. It bought land in South Murwillumbah in January 1907, held an annual regatta attended by 200 people in January 1908 and offered prize money for a single-scull race in 1913.
The present Murwillumbah Rowing Club was established in 1976, according to a published account quoting the club. This is a later organisation than the 1902 club, so the two histories are not presented as continuous.
The current club offers social and competitive rowing, learn-to-row instruction for all ages and school rowing. Its published club listing says new rowers receive qualified and experienced coaching, and that the local climate supports rowing throughout the year.
Flooding in 2022 damaged the club's river access. A rebuilt launch was officially opened in September 2024 after support from the New South Wales Government, Tweed Shire Council and club fundraising.
Murwillumbah hosts the Head of the Tweed, scheduled for 5 July 2026 as the event's 15th edition. The club has also held an annual row commemorating Australian world sculling champion Edward Trickett for 13 years, and its members compete at regattas on the Clarence River at Grafton.
