Newcastle University Boat Club is based at 273 Duckenfield Road, Berry Park, on the Hunter River. It primarily serves University of Newcastle students, staff and alumni, but its current site says it accepts rowers over 18 of all abilities, including competitive and recreational members.

The club was formed in 1961 through the sponsorship of Professor Godfrey Tanner and became a foundation member of the Central Districts Rowing Association. It operated from a nineteenth-century warehouse at Raymond Terrace, bought in 1962, before leaving that site in 2001.

NUBC first leased boat space from Endeavour Rowing Club at Berry Park. A new shed was built during 2003 and 2004, and the club moved its boats into the completed building on 9 April 2004 under a 50-year lease.

The club runs Learn to Row near the start of each university semester, teaching basic sculling to current students and staff. Its listed arrangements include Saturday morning beginner sessions, induction for new members, shed access each morning and some summer afternoons.

Members regularly race at local regattas, while students may seek selection through NUsport for the UniSport Nationals. NUBC also hosts social events and gatherings during the year.

Rowing NSW's 2023-24 para awards link two athletes to NUBC and Hunter Valley Grammar School: Odin Mackintosh received the Governor's Cup for Para Rowing and Harrison Nichols received the President's Cup for Para Rowing.
