About this club
Richmond River Sailing & Rowing Club is a combined watersports club at 2 River Street, Ballina. Its clubhouse stands beside the Richmond River, next to the municipal pool, and its rowing section uses the river from that base.
The club describes its rowing section as a small, social and non-competitive group with around a dozen active rowers. Most are former competitive rowers who now keep their own sculls and row for exercise and enjoyment.
Rowers generally launch in the early morning before the sea breeze. The club says the strongly tidal water is shared with trawlers, fishing and power boats, jet skis, water skiers, kayaks and sailing boats, so safe conduct on the water is its main consideration.
Because of that traffic and tide, the rowing section does not currently train beginners. Rowers with prior experience can contact the club, complete an assessment of their capabilities and, where suitable, join the social rowing programme.
The wider club welcomes membership applications and asks rowing enquirers to visit on Sunday mornings or contact it by email. Its annual regattas attract visitors to Ballina from across Australia, while the rowing section remains explicitly recreational rather than a racing squad.
