About this club

River City Women's Rowing Club is based at Brisbane Corso Park in Yeronga, on the Brisbane River. The Australian Sports Foundation and Rowing Queensland both identify it as a current Queensland rowing club.

The club was established in 2005, one year after the Somerville House rowing shed opened. It was intended to connect Somerville House rowers with old girls, past and current parents, and the surrounding community; foundation members remained active in 2022.

Its link with Somerville House continued through shared care of boats and facilities. During the 2022 Brisbane flood, club and school members moved singles and trailers between the shed, local grounds, members' property and Yeronga State High School to protect them.

River City has competed nationally and internationally. Entries place the club at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta and the 50th Head of the Charles, while 2019 World Rowing Masters results include its rowers in composite crews.

For five years, the club and Rowing Queensland jointly hosted an International Women's Day Race to Raise on the Brisbane River. By 2024 it had developed from an informal race into a community event and breakfast raising money and awareness for women in rowing.

Queensland funding records show support for a boat at Yeronga, volunteer education, equipment, 2022 flood recovery and a 2023-24 project creating more rowing opportunities for women and girls. The latter provided $7,500 for on-water equipment.
