About this club

Riverway Rowing Club is based at Loam Island Community Centre, 1100 Riverway Drive, Rasmussen, on the upper Ross River in Townsville. The centre houses the club's fleet and hosts training, weekend social gatherings and regattas.

The club was established in 2005 by a small group of rowing enthusiasts after the Riverway precinct development created an opportunity for a second Townsville rowing club. Founders Chris Cottrell and Paul Trevethan later became life members.

Membership passed 50 in the first year after the club delivered multiple Learn to Row programmes. School rowing began at Riverway in 2010, and the site now hosts Townsville Grammar School rowing; Ryan Catholic College also identifies Riverway as its host club.

The current adult offer includes two try rows, Learn to Row, social rowing, competitive and elite programmes, rowing trips and corporate Learn to Row. Under-18 membership is through affiliated school programmes.

Members can use sculling and sweep boats from singles to eights. Competitive support covers local and North Queensland regattas, state and national championships, and travel events including Head of the Yarra, Head of the Tweed and World Masters.

The club records multiple North Queensland and Queensland premiership pennants since its 2005 foundation. Its committee includes club captains, a head coach, regatta secretary and social convenor.
