About this club

Shellharbour City Rowing Club operates from Deakin Reserve at Oak Flats, on the southern edge of Lake Illawarra. Its current website describes programmes for beginners and experienced rowers, with options for competitive rowing and leisure rowing.

The incorporated entity has held an active ABN since 18 December 2001. NSW sport annual reports record funding for a Deakin Reserve boatshed in 2002-03 and boat-storage racking at the reserve in 2003-04.

The club has run Learn to Row and school rowing. A 2013 local profile reported programmes with Shellharbour Anglican College and Illawarra Christian School, while a 2023 Shellharbour City Council award citation identified Sandra Bridgen as the club's Learn to Row coordinator and a weekly junior-squad coach.

A 2023 council traffic report confirms that the Deakin Reserve clubhouse gate is regularly used to move boats between the clubhouse and launching area. The council endorsed a no-parking zone to maintain that access.

The club's own account of the December 2018 Reindeer Regatta records second place in the men's novice single sculls and fourth place in a men's masters quad scull. The novice single was the member's first regatta after learning to row at Shellharbour about a year earlier.

Rowing NSW also featured the club in 2018 when it hosted 1956 Italian Olympic rower Campioto Cosimo. The visit included a tour of the club and its boats with club president Linda Knox and secretary Heather Gavin.
