Sydney Rowing Club is based at 613 Great North Road, Abbotsford, on the Parramatta River. Founded in 1870, it is the oldest rowing club in New South Wales.
The club was formed at the Oxford Hotel on 6 March 1870 and opened its first boatshed beside what is now the Sydney Opera House. It bought the Red Cow Inn property at Abbotsford in 1873, later operated from Woolloomooloo Bay, and moved all activity to Abbotsford in 1947.
Its Abbotsford facilities include a boatshed, pontoon, gym and licensed club. Membership covers junior and senior active rowers, non-competitive rowers, coxswains and social or associate members.
Sydney races across the NSW grade and age calendar, including state, national, grade and masters championships. Club crews also compete internationally at events including Henley Royal Regatta, Holland Beker and Head of the Charles.
More than 100 Sydney members have gained national selection. By the Tokyo 2021 Games, 68 club rowers had made Olympic appearances, occupying 102 seats in Australian Olympic crews. The club also offers school-age learn-to-row courses with water, gym, equipment and coaching sessions.
