About this club

University of New South Wales Rowing Club is based at Waruda Place, Huntleys Cove, on Tarban Creek. The current shed address is in Huntleys Cove NSW 2111.

The club began in 1952 when engineering students who shared an interest in rowing arranged to use Mosman Rowing Club boats and facilities. It later moved through The King's School and Cabarita before preparing its first Intervarsity Eight for the 1956 race in Melbourne.

UNSW offers novice, senior and masters squads for men and women, plus coxing opportunities. Senior athletes compete from local grade regattas through to national championships, and the club races boat classes from singles to eights.

Its free learn-to-row course runs for eight weeks, combining Sunday water sessions at Tarban Creek with weekday erg and fitness sessions on the UNSW campus. Graduates can progress to the novice or masters squads.

The club has a long university competition record and won the Australian Universities overall point score in 1987. More recently, the UNSW women won the Rowing NSW Senior and Open Shield in both 2023 to 2024 and 2024 to 2025.
