Shandon Boat Club is based on The Marina in Cork, beside the River Lee. Its published address is Shandon Boat Club, The Marina, Cork, T12 PV07.

The club was founded in May 1877, though its lineage runs through Cork Harbour Rowing Club, founded in 1858, and Queen's College Rowing Club, founded in 1868. The latter adopted the Shandon name nine years later.

Cork City Council granted Queen's College Rowing Club a Marina site in 1871. The first boathouse there was replaced in 1896 by a building designed by James McMullen, and that building remains in use. Shandon introduced Ireland's first centre-seated boat in 1907.

The club won its first national title in the men's junior eight in 1953. A revival from the 1990s brought national and international junior results, including seven national titles by a group of junior women and two Coupe de la Jeunesse gold medals between 1996 and 1998.

Shandon's most successful championship year was 2018, when it won the men's junior eight, men's junior quad, men's intermediate pair and women's club four. Eleven athletes gained international caps that year, four of them at the World Junior Championships.

Current membership covers junior and senior competitive rowing and adult recreational rowing. The club runs summer learn-to-row camps for 12 to 14-year-olds, accepts junior beginners in September and gives rowing members use of club equipment and facilities.

The club also runs Shandon Head of the River on the Lee. Its 2024 programme took crews from beyond Blackrock Castle towards Cork city, and Shandon's event calendar and news cover junior, senior and recreational activity.
