About this club
Tynemouth Rowing Club rows from Priors Haven at the mouth of the River Tyne, where the estuary meets the North Sea. Founded in 1867, it is now a British Rowing Coastal Sculling Academy and welcomes adult members across age groups and experience levels.
The location shapes the club's fleet and training. It keeps fine racing boats as well as heavier boats suited to coastal conditions, supported by indoor rowing machines and a small gym. British Rowing reported that the club had developed a high-performance squad while expanding its Learn to Row courses.
Tynemouth hosted the British Coastal Championships in 2025 and uses coastal rowing and beach sprints as its competitive focus. Beginners are introduced through coached courses with safety cover, while experienced rowers can join the club's performance pathway.
