About this club
Kennebecasis Rowing Club is based at 10 Regatta Row in Rothesay on the Kennebecasis River. Its own history places the club within a local rowing tradition that includes the Paris Crew's victories in 1867 and 1871.
The present organisation was incorporated in February 1972 as the Kennebecasis Rowing and Canoe Club. Its bylaws record that the name was shortened to Kennebecasis Rowing Club in February 1976.
Spring programming includes competitive and high-school rowing. Summer programmes cover competitive groups, novice development and masters rowing, while corporate learn-to-row provides an introductory route for adult groups.
A 2010 club newsletter reported 160 rowers across its programmes. It also recorded club athletes earning medals at the Canada Games, Canadian Henley and national championships, with further representation at English Henley, Pan American and world competition.
Named international athletes in that record include Andrew Messer, Wayne MacFarlane, Ed Winchester and Katie Reynolds. The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame records Winchester winning world championship gold in 2000.
The club has organised regattas for its programme groups and has supported the renewed Renforth Regatta tradition. Its competitive pathway sits alongside novice, high-school, corporate and masters participation rather than serving only elite athletes.
