What does the Row HQ tools page do?
Each calculator on this page runs entirely in the browser with no account, no login and no stored data. Translate a 500m split into watts, work out a weight-adjusted erg score, map out training zones, or estimate your 2k from a longer test. The underlying maths is the Concept2 power formula and the Riegel endurance model - the same standards every Canadian rowing coach works from, whether they are coaching a masters four at Ottawa RC or a varsity eight at an OUA program.

The Concept2 ergometer is the universal testing standard across Canadian rowing - from learn-to-row programs at Vancouver RC through to Rowing Canada Aviron national development squads - but the conversions you want at the erg are scattered across forum threads, half-maintained Excel files and cluttered web widgets. Every coach we have spoken with has rebuilt the same split-to-watts table from scratch at some point. Every member has searched "erg pace calculator" at six in the morning before a session. The formulas are not the hard part. Having them in one clean, fast-loading place is.
All these tools share the same Concept2 power formula, the same Riegel endurance model and the same training-zone definitions running inside the clubs that use Row HQ. They are free because the maths belongs to the sport. What Row HQ charges for is the work that scales across a roster: pulling every athlete's history from a database, building crew lineups from today's data, watching trends from the fall ergo block through to the Royal Canadian Henley sprint season at Martindale Pond. A calculator on a static page cannot do that work.

That is a database problem, not a calculator problem. Row HQ runs the same formulas as the tools on this page, but applies them to every crew member automatically across every session.

Are these rowing tools really free?
Yes. Every calculator on this page is completely free. No account, no email address, no paywall. All calculations happen in the browser, so your numbers never reach our servers. We built them because we kept needing the same conversions before training and found that every existing option was either covered in ads or limited to one distance. The Row HQ club management platform is a paid product, but these tools are public goods for the Canadian rowing community.
Where do the formulas come from?
Split and watts conversions use the canonical Concept2 power formula: watts = 2.80 / (split_seconds / 500)^3. Calorie estimates use kcal/hr = (watts * 4) + 300. Distance predictions use the Riegel endurance model: T2 = T1 * (D2 / D1)^1.06. Each calculator links to the source formula so you can verify the maths.
Do these tools work on mobile?
Yes. Every tool is designed to work between sets at the erg or on the dock. Inputs are sized for touchscreen use, outputs refresh live and the visual pace chart is touch-optimised. Your last few inputs are saved to the browser's local storage, so they are there when you reopen the page on the same device. No app download needed.
Can I use these tools for my whole rowing club?
These calculators are designed for a single rower at a time. If you need to run the same calculations across a full squad, log every session against each member automatically, build crew lineups from current ergo data, and track performance trends from fall ergo testing through the Royal Canadian Henley sprint season, that is exactly what Row HQ handles. The free tools here use the same maths as the club platform, just without the squad database underneath.
