The rowing scene in Vancouver

Vancouver's rowing scene spans two distinct waterways: the historic Coal Harbour in Stanley Park, home to the Vancouver Rowing Club since 1886, and False Creek in the heart of the city, where the False Creek Rowing Club has operated since 2008. Together they serve competitive, masters and recreational rowers against one of the most dramatic backdrops in Canadian sport - the North Shore mountains rising behind Burrard Inlet.

Key numbers

Coal Harbour - the sheltered western arm of Burrard Inlet at the edge of Stanley Park - provides calm training water minutes from downtown Vancouver. False Creek is a tidal inlet that runs into the city's south shore, enclosed by Granville Island and Vanier Park. Burrard Inlet beyond Coal Harbour gives experienced crews open saltwater rowing toward the Lions Gate Bridge. All three waters are tidal and shared with pleasure craft and ferries.

Vancouver Rowing Club

Originally formed in 1886 as the Vancouver Boating Club - the oldest amateur sports organisation in Vancouver and the second oldest in British Columbia. The rival Burrard Inlet Rowing Club amalgamated with it on 1 April 1899 to form the Vancouver Rowing Club. The present heritage clubhouse in Stanley Park was officially opened on 9 September 1911.

Software for Vancouver rowing clubs

Most of the 2 clubs above still run their boat booking, member admin, session attendance and crew lineups on a combination of spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups and printed sheets on the boathouse wall. Row HQ is rowing-club management software built specifically for clubs like these.

If your committee is hitting the predictable problems - lineups in the wrong file, fees uncollected, attendance unrecorded, captain on holiday with the password - book a 30-minute demo. We've ported clubs from spreadsheets in a weekend.
