About this club
North Star Rowing Club is based at 20 and 24 Boathouse Lane on Lake Banook in Dartmouth. It provides beginner, recreational and competitive rowing from a venue with more than 80 years of documented club activity.
The club traces an earlier Dartmouth rowing organisation to the late nineteenth century; its boathouse was destroyed in the 1917 Halifax Explosion. North Star was re-formed in 1934 and moved to Lake Banook during the 1950s.
Learn-to-row classes run in spring and summer, followed by supervised rows with qualified coaching. The broader programme extends from beginner instruction to elite training.
The club also supports para rowing. Row Nova Scotia lists North Star among the provincial organisations that provide para-rowing opportunities.
Robert Mills won Olympic bronze in 1984 and a world championship in 1985. North Star also identifies Andrew Todd as a Paralympian and world champion among its notable athletes.
The club runs and hosts regatta activity on Lake Banook, including the Mother's Day Sprints. Its current programme schedule documents continuing coached, recreational and competitive activity through the 2026 season.
