About this club
Saskatoon Rowing Club rows on the South Saskatchewan River from the Victoria Park Boathouse. Its facility includes training space, fitness equipment and a fleet used for racing and recreational rowing.
The club was established in 1972 to prepare a crew for the 1973 Canada Summer Games. It began without a boathouse or equipment, borrowed its first shell from Winnipeg Rowing Club and stored later equipment behind the Bessborough Hotel.
The Victoria Park Boathouse opened in 1987 and was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II. It gave the club a permanent base before Saskatoon hosted the 1989 Canada Summer Games.
Current programmes cover learn-to-row, recreational rowing, novice masters, juniors, masters, university athletes, para-rowers and high-performance competitors. On-water training runs in spring, summer and autumn, with indoor training through winter.
The club has developed Olympians and Paralympians including Tracy Duncan, Athens 2004 silver medallist Cam Baerg and Paris 2024 Paralympian Jacob Wassermann. Rowing Canada gave the club its Outstanding Achievement of the Year award in 2021, the same year Saskatoon held the first Head of the Saskatchewan Regatta.
