About this club
Burnaby Lake Rowing Club is based at the Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion, 6871 Roberts Street, in metropolitan Vancouver. Its official site describes 2,000 metres of uninterrupted water and a membership of junior and masters rowers in recreational and competitive programmes.
The organisation was founded in 1966 as Burnaby Lake Aquatic Club and adopted the Burnaby Lake Rowing Club name in 1989. Two early members, Daryl Sturdy and Robert Stubbs, represented Canada in the double sculls at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
Junior membership has discovery, development and varsity streams. These range from three weekly practices for foundational and recreational rowing to five sessions for athletes preparing for high-performance competition.
The adult masters programme is coached and largely based around sculling. Members can use racing singles, doubles, quads, pairs and eights, with learn-to-row sessions and private lessons available to people who have not yet developed single-sculling proficiency.
Since summer 2022, the club has worked with Rowing BC's Grow Rowing initiative and MOSAIC to run low-barrier learn-to-row courses for newcomers. Rowing BC reported more than 150 participants across the initiative's early programmes, including a session for mothers with childcare provided.
Burnaby Lake hosts club and provincial racing. The club has run the Midsummer Madness Regatta, while the 2026 Rowing BC Provincial Championship Regatta was staged on the lake; Burnaby tourism information says the club manages the fully buoyed six-lane, 2,000-metre course.
